Fear is one of those subjects that while hard to talk about, is necessary because it is what hinders most business owner from becoming as successful as they want to become.
Fear has ruined more dreams that can be counted. So many people have so many amazing ideas, yet they ultimately let fear be the judge, jury, and executioner of their business and dreams.
So what is it about fear that we let it hold us back from doing the things we know we can and should be doing? Well, it can be a bunch of different things, but if I were to boil it down to one thing it would be this: we fear failure.
We have been taught that if we “fail”, that there is either something wrong with us, or that we need to be reprimanded (think school, your job). Here’s the problem with that way of thinking: how are you ever suppose to learn anything if you don’t have a safe place to experience failure?
That is what entrepreneurship is. A safe place for you to learn and grow, try new things, figure out what works, what doesn’t, all in the hopes of getting 1% better every single day. But if you bring that same fear you had before into your own business, you are destined to become a statistic.
So how do you truly get over your fear? Or even enough to be able to try something outside of your comfort zone? There are three sure fire tips that can help you start battling your fear today.
First and foremost, start small. Don’t start with the thing that you fear the most. Get yourself a win, realize that you can overcome fear, and build momentum that can carry you on to the next project/thing you tackle.
Second, surround yourself with an association of other business owners/people who understand what you are going through. Nothing combats fear like having people around who understand your struggle and can help offer you positive perspective and advice.
Lastly, remember why you started. Remember the things you want to accomplish in your life, the dreams you have, and the goals you have for your future. When you feel fear, this will allow you to stop, recognize the fear, but realize that nothing is as important as living the life you feel you were truly destined to live.
We have seen fear wipe out so many people and business . . . don’t let that be you. Don’t let that be your business. Make a stand against fear and choose to act in spite of it!
